Music Department

De La Salle College prides itself on having a thriving Music Department encouraging all pupils, whatever their ability to build on their existing talents, and love for music.  As well as providing a positive environment for classroom work, we encourage our boys to involve themselves in the abundant musical activities on offer.   These have provided some very memorable experiences in the past.

Our College shows have included ‘Aladdin’, ‘Robinson Crusoe’, ‘Oliver’, ‘Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Blood Brothers’.  This year we are well underway with rehearsals for ‘Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.’  Our college choir has participated in cross-community events with the Ulster Orchestra, UTV Choir of the Year, Happy Christmas Belfast in Cornmarket and the City Hall, and in the Belfast Music Festival.  De La Salle College also provides tuition for Brass, Woodwind, Tin Whistle, Keyboard and Guitar.  We also have a thriving Irish Traditional Group.

In recent years, in association with J.W. Promotions, we have participated in the very popular ‘Stars in Yer Eyes’ Competition.  This gives budding singers and groups the chance to perform live to audiences with the chance of winning money from a prize fund of £5000.

Our traditional folk group has become a vibrant part of our department and our college life. The pupils receive lessons on whistle, guitar, accordion and bodhran and perform at many events through out the year in and outside of college.

We try to instil a future love of music in all our boys, whether they do GCSE, extra-curricular or just classroom activities, so that when they leave De La Salle College they will treat all music as a source of inspiration.
