Learning for Life and Work Department
Learning for Life and work is a compulsory subject at Key Stage 3 and 4.  This subject includes Local and Global Citizenship, Employability, Personal Development and Home Economics and is at the core of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. All of our Key Stage 3 pupils study Learning for Life and Work and this includes practical Home Economics in state of the art kitchens.  At Key Stage 4, all pupils study GCSE Learning for Life and Work, which consists of Local and Global Citizenship, Learning for Work and Personal Development.  It is important that the pupils are involved in Learning for Life and Work in Action.  To this end our pupils are involved in charity events, helping others less fortunate and supporting Local and Global Charities.  Our pupils welcome many visitors from the world of business as part of their study in Employability.  They also take a tour of Pizza Express restaurants in Belfast and have an opportunity to create their own pizzas as part of the Home Economics syllabus.  We welcome visitors from the Northern Ireland Fire Service and other agencies to support the Personal Development programme.

Each year, our Year 10 pupils take tours of the historic Parliament Buildings at Stormont.  Our Local and Global Citizenship pupils have welcomed visitors from Age Concern, The Simon Community, Amnesty International and Habitat for Humanity.  While our Learning for Work students have welcomed visitors from Tesco, The Careers Service, a local entrepreneur and a Trade Union Representative.  These visits are a great success and really make the subject come alive for all of our pupils.
