As a teacher in De La Salle College you join a large family, past and present, of dedicated and talented teachers who have helped build a reputation, not only in the local community but throughout N. Ireland and the world, for delivering quality education to the boys in our care.

In today's climate of target setting and curriculum reviews it is important for staff members to keep up to date with developments in the field of education. These pages hope to outline current developments within La Salle and give guidance as to where other information may be found.

Current Teachers:

Currently we have 72 teachers in the college with a wide range of experience and skills ranging from those in their 30th teaching year to those newly qualified. This broad spectrum helps keep La Salle at the forefront of current teaching standards while maintaining traditional methods and values.

New Teachers:

As a new teacher you will be warmly welcomed and supported throughout your first years. The staff has a real mix of experience for you to call on. Mrs. Paula Lynch is currently the senior staff member responsible for new teachers helping to guide them through the first year.

Substitute Teachers

As a substitute teacher in La Salle you will find a helpful and friendly staff. The following links may be of some guidance while in our school.

Student Teachers:

Every year La Salle welcomes students from St Mary's University College, Queen's University and the University of Ulster on teaching practice.

Occasionally local students at colleges in England also come to the school.

Those students aspiring to become teachers and have to spend an extended period of time in schools, observing other teachers and teaching lessons themselves in a controlled setting.

La Salle is happy to provide a facility for students to gain such experience in the classroom. The school is highly regarded by all the colleges as a very well organised, caring and committed provider of training and is popular as a school among the trainee teachers - a fact illustrated by the large numbers who wish to come to the school each year.

At present Mrs.Fiona Kane is the overall teacher in charge of students with the various Heads of Department and Class Teachers taking responsibility for individual student timetables and class work on a day to day basis.

It is interesting to note that a sizeable number of the present teaching staff in La Salle were not only pupils attending the school but were also in the school on Teaching Practice.
